A new month brings a new photo challenge from perelincolors to Lucile’s blog! This month’s challenge is an easy one. Choose whatever subject you like, use whatever gear you have, but take your picture when the light is at its best.
The first prime time of the day is just after sunrise and in the early morning. Unlike your ‘Tech of the month’ co-host Lucile, I rarely get out that early. But every time I did, it was worth it.
(This photo is from my post about our visit to Can Tho in Vietnam.) Head on to this post for a picture from Lucile’s vast oeuvre of early morning pictures.
Luckily, late afternoon light is just as flattering and can make just about anything look beautiful. Even garbage.
I took these pictures on the first of May in Kreuzberg, Berlin. We arrived about an hour before sunset and it was obvious that the party had been going on for a while already. For a more romantic perspective on soft evening light, have a look at this post from Justine of Eclectic odds n sods.
If even late afternoon is too early for you, get out at dusk. Try to capture the sunset or play with a mixture of light from the sky and artificial sources (provided that you live in a city).

(This image is from our post about Dondaemun Design Plaza in Seoul.) Want to see more pictures taken at dusk? Here is one submitted to the Photo Rehab by Teresa of My Story by Teresa.
Last month’s topic was ”Point of View’. Be sure to check out these awesome in-time contributions to the challenge:
The BeeSpeak: Low blossoms
Musings of a frequently flying scientist: Arterial Canopy
belgianstreets: tram (point of view)
Lucile De Godoy: Point of view: Photo101 Rehab
perelincolors: Modern architecture – Seoul city hall
To participate this time, head out at sunset, track the last sun beams of the day or roam the streets of your city at dusk. Publish your picture and notify us by creating a pingback to this post or leaving your link in the comments section. Don’t forget to also submit your images to Lucile’s Photo Rehab, it’s a lovely place to hang out!
For more inspiration, have a look at this month’s contributions:
Musings of a frequently flying scientist: Momentarily Technical
belgianstreets: light (right?)

Fantastic post. I’m like you, not good with early morning shots but I do have some nice sunsets that I took with Lucile last week!

I suppose I should first read my camera manual and only then experiment with light when I have some knowledge of what I’m even doing, but this post illustrates it quite helpfully. I’m very happy to see that it’s not only me who shoots trash 😉

It’s not strictly necessary to read the manual for this one though. When you get out at the right time, it will look great, no matter what you do!

Beautiful light in these shots. You’re absolutely right too: get out when the light is right!
